THE SHORT HAIR Era

Last summer, after thinking about it for months, I got drunk and had my friend “trim” my hair. That obviously led to panic-booking with professional and over the course of a month, I went from long hair to shorter and shorter. I hadn’t chopped my hair in years because the last time I did it, I regretted it immediately, but I felt very ready for it this time around. My hair hasn’t been the same postpartum and I was craving a fresh start – literally and figuratively.

I will say, overall, I’ve LOVED having it short, even when we went really short. I’m now in that stage of questioning whether to grow it out or not, but I think I’ll stick with my current length for a while. I’ve never received more compliments in my life about my hair lately, so I wanted to break down the details. Let me know if I missed anything!

WHAT I ASK FOR

Outside of showing photos of what I like, I just let my stylist do her thing. I asked her to break it down for you guys though. I currently see Ashley @ Primary. Here’s what she said:

Color

We did a full teasylight and a babylight face frame. We toned warm with 8wg 7nw shades eq root shadow 5nw.

Literally no clue what this means, hence why I never reply to the DMs about it.

Cut

We do a slight lob and thin out my hair since it’s thick. We also add a little texture to my ends so it’s not super blunt.

PRODUCTS I USE

I have most of my everyday hair products on this list. Wanted to clarify how I use a few items:

+ Hair wax stick & tease brush: For slick back buns and flyaways.

+ Thermal brush, curling iron & hair dryer brush: Depending on the look I’m going for, these are the tools I use for styling.

+ Hair gloss: It wasn’t until I went lighter than I realized this gloss is actually a semi-permanent hair color (oops!). I love the color / tint it leaves though and they have all different tones. Great for neutralizing brassy or old color in between appointments and leaves hair SO shiny!

HOW I STYLE IT

I’ve been saving different styling looks & tutorials to a hair highlight on IG, including my messy side bun & effortless waves. Keep checking back for more!
