I’ll spare you the collagen spiel since I’ve done it here & here (different recipes on both), but I wanted to share this yummy, healthy, and very Instagram-able smoothie recipe. Smoothies are often my mid-day snack since they are filling and nutritious, so I’m always on the hunt for new and interesting recipes. When I’m not in the mood for a fruity smoothie, but rather something a little bitter, I make my banana + peanut butter collagen smoothie, but this one is perfect for something a little sweeter.
The triple layers help balance the sweetness, and while it’s definitely more work than one straight forward “flavor,” the good news is you can freeze them. Aka, make them, freeze them, drink them. Pretty sweet if you ask me.
Before I break down the recipe, I wanted to mention that I used 3 different collagen products (1 in each layer). While they all ultimately work towards the same objective, there are added benefits to each. I’ve done all the research in order to summarize it for you, which is saying something because I hate research (LOL).
Marine Collagen: Promotes youthful skin, healthier hair and nails. Supports joint health, and boosts your immune, digestive, and central nervous systems.
Collagen Peptides: Helps with the regeneration of skin, hair, tendon, cartilage, bones, and joints.
Whey Protein Collagen: Has natural hyaluronic acid, which can treat burns, wounds, skin and great for joint support. Created as a probiotic for increased protein utilization.
TRIPLE LAYER COLLAGEN SMOOTHIE
Layer 1: 1 scoop of marine collagen, 1/4 cup blueberries, 1/4 cup Greek yogurt, 1/2 cup almond milk
Blend all, pour into cup / mason jar and freeze for 20 minutes
Layer 2: 1 scoop collagen peptides, 1/4 cup raspberries, 1/4 cup Greek yogurt, 1/2 cup almond milk
Blend all, add to your mostly-hardened first layer, and freeze for 15 minutes
Layer 3: 1 scoop vanilla whey protein collagen, 1 banana, 1/4 cup almond milk, some chia seeds
Blend all, top your glass with this layer and enjoy!
*If you’re making multiples and freezing for later, allow to thaw for about 10 minutes before drinking
